  • Pick the Personalized Study Plan if you’re willing to self-study and you mainly need structure, a schedule, and accountability.

  • Pick Private 1‑on‑1 Tutoring if you want the fastest progress, you’re stuck at a plateau, or you need someone to diagnose your patterns and tighten execution under time pressure.

  • Pick the Verbal Course + Math Concepts Guide if you want a DIY approach with strong "how to" guidance.

If you tell us your goal score + test date + current baseline, we’ll point you to the best starting point.

Quick note: the GRE is shorter now (and your plan should match it)

The GRE General Test is about 1 hour 58 minutes and includes one Issue essay, plus two Verbal sections and two Quant sections. Your Verbal and Quant are section‑level adaptive, so early performance affects what you see later.

If you’re using older “3h45m GRE” timelines or outdated essay guidance, it’s easy to waste time—so we build your plan for the current test.

The at‑home GRE second-camera requirement is effective January 5, 2026.

Typical GRE prep timelines

Every student is different, but here are realistic, common prep setups:

If your test is in 4–6 weeks

You need a focused plan and fast feedback. Most people do best with tutoring so you don’t waste time guessing what to do next (all tutoring includes study planning).

If your test is in 8–12 weeks

This is most common scenario we encounter. A personalized study plan works well if you’ll self-study consistently. Tutoring can be added to this initially, or after you've learned the math concepts.

If your test is 3+ months out

This is where a structured plan pays off with less stress. We can build a calmer, sustainable schedule that fits school/work and still hits ambitious score goals with less tutoring or even no tutoring.

If you tell us your goal score, baseline, and test date, we’ll recommend the best option and a realistic weekly workload.

GRE Prep FAQ

Which GRE prep option should I choose?

If you’re willing to self-study and mainly need structure, choose the Personalized Study Plan. If you want the fastest progress (or you’ve plateaued), choose Private 1‑on‑1 Tutoring. If you want a DIY path with strong guidance, choose the Verbal Course + Math Concepts Guide.

How long does GRE prep usually take?

Many students see good progress with 8 to 12 weeks of consistent prep (2 to 3 hours / day). Shorter timelines can work, but they usually require tighter feedback and higher weekly volume.

How many hours per week should I study?

A realistic baseline is 12 to 18 hours/week for steady improvement. If your timeline is short or your goal is aggressive, the weekly workload may need to be higher.

I’m busy (work/school). Can this still work?

Yes. We build schedules that are sustainable and focus on the highest-leverage work first.

Do you help with GRE Verbal and GRE Quant?

Yes. We help with both verbal (reading comprehension, text completion, sentence equivalence, vocabulary strategy) and quant (concept gaps, speed, accuracy, and efficient setups).

Do you help with the GRE essay?

Yes. The GRE includes the Issue essay, and we can help you develop a repeatable structure and improve clarity and argument quality without over-investing time.

Is the GRE adaptive?

Verbal and Quant are section-level adaptive. Practically, this means early accuracy matters because it influences the difficulty of what you see later.

Do you use official GRE questions?

Whenever possible, we steer prep toward official ETS materials that behave just like the real test—because practicing unrealistic questions is one of the fastest ways to waste time.

Can you help if I’m aiming for a top score (MBA/JD/competitive programs)?

Yes. High scorers usually don’t need “more content”—they need execution: timing decisions, precision, and eliminating the specific mistake types that cap scores.

Do you offer online tutoring, or only in-person?

We work with students online (and can also meet in person in San Diego). If you tell us your location and schedule, we’ll recommend the best format.

Do you tutor for the at-home GRE?

Yes. The content is the same, but at-home testing has extra logistics, so more things can go wrong. As of January 5, 2026, ETS requires a second camera (using a smartphone or tablet) for the at-home GRE—so we recommend doing a no-surprises setup before test day.

Do you offer a military discount?

Yes—there’s a 15% discount for active duty military on most options. Contact us for details.

Testimonial

"I highly recommend Vince for GRE prep! I signed up for his customized study plan after trying to get started on GRE studying on my own for a few weeks. Vince was super helpful. He helped me develop a study plan that worked with my schedule and provided a ton of material (including his GRE Verbal course). He was attentive and provided useful feedback and tips throughout my studies. After 2-3 months of studying with Vince, I took the GRE and was thrilled to see that my score went up significantly." - Mariah B.
