Dietetic internships now admit like most graduate programs: you apply through DICAS, programs interview their top applicants, and offers go out by a set date. There is no computer match anymore. Here is how named internships interview for the Spring 2027 cycle, including one that publishes its video questions.

Interview formats at named programs
| Program | Format | What their page says |
|---|---|---|
| NewYork-Presbyterian | Video conference | For Spring 2027: “Interviews will be conducted via video conference.” Interviews are evaluated on “Communication, Teamwork/Collaboration, Accountability, Flexibility, Judgment/Decision Making Skills, and Customer Service Skills.” Source |
| UCSF Health | Zoom panel | For 2027-2028, five interns. “Panel interviews with top candidates will be held in early February.” Interviews are on Zoom, and “the panel will consist of the DI Director, the Director of Nutrition Services, and 3 - 4 current preceptors.” Source |
| Mayo Clinic (Minnesota) | Virtual, one interviewer | “Candidates considered for acceptance are contacted to schedule a virtual interview with a member of Mayo Clinic’s internship selection committee. Interviews last approximately 30 to 45 minutes.” Source |
| Emory Healthcare | Set interview weeks | Early decision interviews November 16-20, 2026; standard interviews February 15-19, 2027. Source |
| Texas Tech University | Recorded video plus Teams | A three-question personal video, then “DI Director will conduct a virtual interview via TEAMS to be no longer than 30 minutes.” Source |
No more match: how DI offers work now
ACEND ended the computer match. “The computer matching process provided by D&D Digital will be discontinued. Spring 2024 marks the last cycle that will use the computer matching process.” (ACEND)
ACEND’s current traffic rules set the dates instead. “Programs should notify all applicants by November 1 (Fall) or March 1 (Spring) if they receive an offer, are waitlisted, or are rejected.” “Applicants may not be required to notify programs of their decision until on or after November 10 (Fall) or March 10 (Spring).” Programs may also make offers earlier in the cycle (ACEND traffic rules). That is why Emory runs an early decision round with November interviews.
Video questions Texas Tech publishes
Texas Tech asks for a video “no longer than three minutes in length”, answering these questions in order. “Applicants do not have to read the question word-for-word but should paraphrase the question before answering.” (Texas Tech)
- “Begin with a brief introduction of yourself at the beginning of the interview. Include your name and school affiliation.”
- “What are the characteristics of the TTU Dietetic Internship that led you to apply to our sites and why do you think you are a good fit for our dietetic internship?”
- “Identify an experience that you consider a defining moment in developing you into who you are today.”
Three questions in three minutes leaves about a minute each. The second question rewards research: name specific features of the program, not general praise. For more on recorded formats, see our Kira Talent video interview guide.
For recording your video answers, see one-way video interview tips from Julie Cunningham, a licensed speech-language pathologist.
Practice questions
Apart from Texas Tech’s video, internships don’t publish their questions. These are my practice prompts, not questions any program has published:
- Why this internship, and which rotation are you most excited about?
- Tell us about a time you had to be flexible when plans changed. (NYP lists Flexibility.)
- Describe a decision you made with incomplete information.
- How would you counsel a patient who doesn’t want to change their diet?
- Tell us about a conflict on a team and how you handled it.
- How do you manage a heavy workload with competing deadlines?
- Where do you see yourself as a registered dietitian in five years?
How to prepare
- Match your stories to NYP’s six criteria: communication, teamwork, accountability, flexibility, judgment, and customer service.
- Research each program’s rotations so you can say why it fits you, specifically.
- Prepare for a panel. UCSF’s includes the DI director, the director of nutrition services, and preceptors.
- Record a practice video and time it if a program asks for one.
- Know the dates: offers by March 1, and you don’t have to decide before March 10.
Your interviewers may have your application in front of them, so reread your own dietetic internship personal statement before the interview. If you haven’t submitted yet, see our dietetic internship personal statement examples, or work with Lauren Hammond, PhD, our personal statement editor.

Practice with a real interviewer before the real one. My wife, Julie Cunningham, MA, CCC-SLP, is a licensed speech-language pathologist who runs mock interviews on Zoom for dietetic internship applicants. She coaches every format: one-on-one, panel, MMI, and recorded video interviews such as Kira Talent. She works on how your answers come across: clear key words, pace, voice, filler words, organizing an answer so it has a point, staying steady when you’re nervous, and how you look and sound on camera. It’s $250 an hour.
Frequently asked questions
Is there still a dietetic internship match?
No. ACEND discontinued the D&D Digital computer match, and Spring 2024 was the last cycle to use it. Programs now make offers directly.
When do dietetic internships make offers for spring?
ACEND’s traffic rules say programs should notify all applicants by March 1 for the spring cycle, and applicants may not be required to decide until on or after March 10.
Are dietetic internship interviews virtual?
Most on this page are. NYP uses video conference, UCSF a Zoom panel, Mayo a virtual interview, and Texas Tech a Teams interview.
What questions are on the Texas Tech DI video?
An introduction with your name and school, what about the TTU internship led you to apply and why you fit, and an experience you consider a defining moment.
How long is a dietetic internship interview?
Mayo says about 30 to 45 minutes, and Texas Tech says its virtual interview is no longer than 30 minutes.
