London has more students applying to American universities than anywhere else in the UK, more SAT test centres, and the highest concentration of tutoring agencies. It also has the worst scheduling problem: most genuinely experienced SAT specialists are in the United States, where the working day is your child's night.
That's the problem I'm set up to solve. I'm on the west coast of the US, eight hours behind London, and I keep my mornings free for students in the UK and Europe. A session at 4pm or 5pm your time is a normal working morning for me.

No late-night sessions, no weekends lost, and no working around an American tutor's leftover hours. For students who train seriously — and a lot of my London students row, fence, or play squash — a session can sit either side of practice.
To be straightforward about it: this is online tutoring over Zoom, not in-person tutoring in London. If you specifically want someone in the room, an agency with London staff is the right choice. What I offer instead is a specialist with nearly twenty years on these two tests, working one-to-one, at a time that suits a London school day.
Who I work with in London
Mostly students at independent and international schools across London and the South East who are applying to selective American universities alongside, or instead of, a UCAS application. Two patterns come up repeatedly.

Rowers, fencers, squash and tennis players being recruited by US universities. Their real deadline isn't the application — it's the coach's academic pre-read, which can't happen before 1 July preceding Year 13.
Some background. Nearly twenty years teaching the SAT and ACT, and I played college basketball at St. Mary's College and Whittier College. I recently worked with a fencing recruit who needed a top score to secure his place and scholarship support at Johns Hopkins; he earned a perfect 36 on the ACT. Across my students, families have received more than $200,000 in scholarships.
What London families should know about the practicalities
London is the best-served part of the UK for testing and also the most competitive for seats.
- Test centres. Around 25 SAT centres exist across the UK and the densest cluster is London and the South East. That's good news, but London dates book out months ahead, so register as soon as you choose a date rather than waiting until you feel prepared.
- The ACT is a London-only proposition. There are roughly four ACT centres in the UK, almost all in London. If you're weighing the two tests and you're in the capital, the ACT is at least practical for you — which is not true for most of the country. See SAT or ACT for UK students.

What preparation actually involves for a strong London student
Less than most agencies will sell you, and different in kind. A student doing A-level or IB maths already knows more mathematics than the Digital SAT tests. The gap is specific:
- Desmos. A graphing calculator is built into every SAT maths question. British students, trained on scientific calculators and algebraic working, often never touch it, and solve by hand what could be read off a graph in seconds.
- Terminology. Gradient is slope, a turning point is a vertex, and the intercept is b rather than c. Trivial once seen, costly the first time under a clock.
- A short list of real content gaps — circle equations away from the origin, and a cluster of statistics and inference topics that GCSE maths emphasises less.
- The adaptive format. Performance on the first module of each section decides whether the second is the harder or easier version, and the easier one caps the achievable score.
- The reading and writing section as a mechanical editing task rather than an English exam. British students are usually taught grammar more explicitly than American students; almost nobody is taught to apply it as a repeatable decision procedure.

How the work goes

Two to four months of weekly work is typical for a strong student moving from the 1200s toward the 1400s. Starting in the autumn of Year 12 leaves room for two sittings before the summer.

My child gets top grades. Why would they need SAT tutoring?
Because school grades and SAT scores measure different things. Strong London students routinely score below their ability on a first attempt — not from any gap in knowledge, but from unfamiliarity with the format, the pacing, the American terminology, and the built-in Desmos calculator.
Do you work with students outside London?
Yes, anywhere in the UK, Ireland, and continental Europe. European sessions run an hour later in local time.
