Doctor of Audiology programs interview in very different ways. Some hold an in-person interview day, some run a short Zoom conversation, and some skip the live interview and ask for a recorded video instead. Two programs publish their video questions word for word. Here is what named programs say about the 2027 cycle, from their own admissions pages.

Interview formats at named programs
Applications go through CSDCAS, which opened July 15, 2026 and closes July 1, 2027 at 11:59 PM ET (CSDCAS). Each program sets its own deadline and interview format.
| Program | Format | What their page says |
|---|---|---|
| West Virginia University | In person | Interview Day is February 1, 2027, in person for on-campus applicants. “Personal attributes are evaluated during the interview”, including “A desire for lifelong learning”, critical thinking, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and “An openness to receiving constructive feedback”. Source |
| San Diego State / UC San Diego | Zoom | For Fall 2027, “a majority of applicants will be invited to schedule a Zoom interview”; its FAQ says the top “(approximately 75%)” are invited. “This will be a brief, informal conversation.” Source |
| Washington University in St. Louis | One-way video (Kira Talent) | “Applicants to the AuD and MSDE programs are required to complete a video interview for admission consideration.” You answer three pre-recorded questions, and “The interview typically takes 15-20 minutes to complete.” Source |
| East Tennessee State University | Recorded video | For Fall 2027: “Instead of an interview, we are asking you to submit a short video as part of your application.” The video runs 2 to 4 minutes, and no more than 5. Source |
| University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences | Recorded video (YouTube) | UAMS will not admit a Fall 2027 class; its next cohort starts in May 2028. Applicants submit an unlisted YouTube video, “no longer than five minutes”, answering three published questions. Source |
Video questions programs publish
East Tennessee State asks for a 2 to 4 minute video answering these four questions (ETSU):
- “Tell us about yourself.”
- “What would someone who doesn’t like you say about you?”
- “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?”
- “Is there anything else about you or your application that you think we should know?”
UAMS asks for one video, no longer than five minutes, answering three longer questions (UAMS):
- “How would you describe your approach to embracing and adapting to different academic or training environments? Please provide an example from your past experiences that demonstrate your flexibility and ability to thrive in diverse situations.”
- “Graduate school often involves juggling various responsibilities such as coursework, research, clinical duties, and personal commitments. Describe an instance when you had to manage multiple tasks or expectations simultaneously. What did you learn from this experience about managing your time effectively?”
- “Describe how your background or life experiences have shaped your ability to work with people with backgrounds and perspectives that are different from your own. How do you plan to apply these skills when working with other students and patients?”
Notice the pattern. ETSU’s questions are short and personal; UAMS’s are behavioral and ask for a specific example. Five minutes for three behavioral answers is tight, so plan each one: the situation, what you did, and what you learned. For more on recorded formats, see our Kira Talent video interview guide.

Practice questions
Beyond ETSU and UAMS, programs don’t publish their questions. These are my practice prompts, not questions any program has published:
- Why audiology rather than speech-language pathology or medicine?
- What did you see while shadowing an audiologist that surprised you?
- How would you explain a hearing test result to a worried parent?
- Tell us about a time you received hard feedback. What did you do with it?
- Where do you see audiology going in the next ten years?
- Why our program, and what would you add to it?
- What questions do you have for us?
How to prepare
- Check the format for each program. In person, Zoom, one-way Kira video, or a YouTube upload: the table shows all four in one profession.
- Draft and time answers to the published questions from ETSU and UAMS, even if you aren’t applying there. They cover what most AuD interviews ask.
- Bring two shadowing stories with a specific patient, test, or device in each.
- Prepare for feedback questions. West Virginia lists openness to constructive feedback among the attributes it evaluates.
- Record yourself. Watch for pace, filler words, and whether each answer makes one clear point.
Your interviewers may have your application in front of them, so reread your own audiology personal statement before the interview. If you haven’t submitted yet, see our audiology personal statement examples, or work with Lauren Hammond, PhD, our personal statement editor.
For podiatry, perfusion, sonography, and other professions, see our allied health interview guide. Applying to speech-language pathology too? See our SLP interview guide.
For speaking naturally to a camera with a timer running, see Kira Talent assessment tips from Julie Cunningham, a licensed speech-language pathologist.
Practice with a real interviewer before the real one. My wife, Julie Cunningham, MA, CCC-SLP, is a licensed speech-language pathologist who runs mock interviews on Zoom for AuD applicants. She coaches every format: one-on-one, panel, MMI, and recorded video interviews such as Kira Talent. She works on how your answers come across: clear key words, pace, voice, filler words, organizing an answer so it has a point, staying steady when you’re nervous, and how you look and sound on camera. It’s $250 an hour.
Frequently asked questions
Do AuD programs interview?
Many do, in person or on Zoom, and some use a recorded video instead. East Tennessee State asks Fall 2027 applicants for a short video in place of an interview.
What questions are on the ETSU audiology video?
Four: tell us about yourself; what would someone who doesn’t like you say about you; where do you see yourself in 10 years; and is there anything else we should know.
How long is the AuD video interview?
ETSU asks for 2 to 4 minutes and no more than 5. UAMS allows up to five minutes for three questions. WashU’s Kira interview typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
When does CSDCAS open for 2027?
CSDCAS opened July 15, 2026 and closes July 1, 2027 at 11:59 PM ET. Each program sets its own earlier deadline.
Does San Diego State interview every AuD applicant?
No. Its FAQ says the top (approximately 75%) of applicants are invited to a brief, informal Zoom interview.
